So I've been contemplating something for a while, my little bloggy friends. The days pass, and I am hardly ever able to visit other blogs or post multiple days a week. I just don't have the time available because of my job. Besides, there are a TON of writerly blogs that you can go to for advice, commiseration, etc.
Sooooooooooooooooo, I've decided to transform my blog.
Instead of focusing on myself--which I am totally boring anyway--I am going to start helping authors to promote their work. I'm thinking I want to help indie authors though I have no problem promoting everyone. It makes no difference to me. :)I'm also thinking about having my students read a book and review it so you can get the middle grade/high school perspective.
But how does one go about doing this? Do I contact those authors and ask to promote them? Do I conduct interviews? Do I have a giveaway once a month for the authors I promote (I am kind of poor--*cough*...teacher--but I can afford a bit of a giveaway a month).
Do you guys have any advice on how I can help to promote other authors and transform this site? Do you have example sites I could check out?
I would start a new page saying you are willing to help promote authors, and then say that on the social networking sites. (If you email me when you are ready I could plug you on my twitter, blog, and Facebook and start sending peeps your way :)

I will definitely do all of the above that you suggested. :) I thin I'll advertise on Absolute Write et all. Maybe even contact some Indy people to see if they'll allow me to interview them. I will contact you when I am ready to begin (want to have a line up of interviews, etc.). Thanks, L!!!
DeleteNot sure how to go about transforming your blog, but once I have a book to promote, I'll definitely ask your help. :D
ReplyDeletePLEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASE DO!
DeleteI think it's a great idea and very generous of you. I think the main thing to keep people interested is to keep it personal. Don't just post information - we still want some sense of you and your opinion to give the promotion a real context.
ReplyDeleteSo very true. I want to promote, not bore everyone to death. :P
DeleteWell, I don't know how to 'transform' your blog other than just jumping in (you've already opened it up via this offer), but your remarks prompted me to offer my YA to you and your young readers...and if some feedback comes back...it would definitely be a win for me. (he smiles)
ReplyDeleteIf you would like a Kindle copy of my 6 Ways to Die, or any of my Black Lake novels...send me a note at rmacwheeler atsign gmail dot com.
I'm currently reading my Expiring Covenant to my 91 YO MIL who is in hospice...not a fantasy reader in any fashion...but she's enjoying my portrayal of ogres and trolls *wink*

I am going to ask one of the kids if they want to write a review for extra credit. If so, I am going to contact you. Thank you so much for offering! But I believe in paying an author, so I will be purchasing as well.
DeleteI am sure there are many writers who would welcome your help with promotion. Sadly I don't have anything at the moment but one day... hopefully! Good luck with your venture.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Let me know when you want to share something. :)
DeleteWhat a nice way to start this year! That's why I ADORE this community so much! Many bloggers are offering their sites to help other writers. I think it's AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI think the few ideas you had mentioned is definitely a good start. Why not shoot Alex Cavanaugh a note. He is AWESOME and he helps EVERYONE. I bet he'll have some great suggestions.
Going to write Alex this week. Excellent suggestion, Michael!
DeleteI think it's a great idea. Perhaps add some text at the top of your blog so people aren't shy of asking you to promote them. Hopefully I'll have a book accepted for publication (at last!) and would love your help in promoting it. I don't think you need to worry too much. Your clientele will come to you.
ReplyDeleteNas Dean, at RomanceBookParadise and RomanceReaders is one blogger who concentrates on promotion.
As a teacher, you may like my idea. Maybe I'm not as time poor as you as I only work part time now, but I began an English Resources blog which will have free resources for writers and students. I'd be happy to have some input if you don't want to start your own. Here is the link:

Happy New Year and Happy New Ventures!

Nas does a wonderful job promoting. Good call on the addition to my blog title. I will check out your blog this week. HNY to you as well!
DeleteThanks! I’ve been learning on how to add a custom page template but good thing I found this.

Welcome!
DeleteThat's an awesome idea :-) Especially for writers of Middle/YA who can get "real life" feedback from their target audience. On a personal note: I enjoy reading snippets and excerpts from a book, as well as character interviews or in-depth discussions of the book's setting (other world, fictional town, etc.) Really, anything out of the ordinary captures my attention. Some days, there are so many run-of-the-mill author interviews and book reviews in my dashboard and Twitter stream that my eyes just glaze over.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for giving me ideas on what to include but writing about your likes. It is extremely helpful, let me tell you. You rock! :)
